Meanwhile, in Gombe State, the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has issued a stern warning to the Gombe State Independent Electoral Commission (GOSIEC). IPAC threatened legal action if the commission failed to conduct elections for the 11 local government councils promptly.
A letter addressed to the commission’s chairman and signed by Muhammed Sulaiman Kumo, the state chapter chairman of IPAC, and 17 others, provided a one-week ultimatum for the election to be conducted. The letter expressed dissatisfaction with GOSIEC’s refusal to release an election timetable less than 37 days before the expiration of the tenure of the present caretaker committee overseeing the 11 local government councils in the state.
Kumo, also the Chairman of the National Rescue Movement (NRM), criticized GOSIEC’s lack of transparency and urged prompt action to ensure a fair and timely electoral process for the benefit of the local communities.
