Nigerian football stars Victor Osimhen and Asisat Oshoala have been nominated for the 2023 Globe Soccer Awards in the Best Men’s and Women’s categories, respectively.
Osimhen, who previously won the Emerging Player of the Year in the 2022 edition of the Globe Soccer Awards, had an impressive season, finishing 8th in the 2023 Ballon d’Or standings. The Napoli striker also made the final nomination for the 2023 CAF Best Men’s Player of the Year.
Osimhen faces tough competition for the award, with nominees including Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Jude Bellingham, Karim Benzema, Harry Kane, and Kylian Mbappe. The winner will be announced at a Gala event on January 19, 2024.
As for Asisat Oshoala, the Super Falcons star has earned her first nomination for the Women’s Best Player award. Oshoala played a crucial role in Barcelona Femeni’s triumph in the UEFA Women’s Champions League last season.
The award winners in various categories will be revealed at the Gala event scheduled for January 19, 2024.
CAF Awards 2023: Osimhen makes Men’s Player of the Year Top 10 cut
Victor Osimhen has been named in the final 10-man shortlist for the 2023 CAF Men’s Player of the Year.
CAF reduced the list to 10 from the original 30 released two weeks ago.
Africa’s soccer ruling body announced the contenders for the individual accolade on its X handle on Friday.
Senegal’s Sadio Mane, who won the prestigious award for the first time last year, Mohamed Salah, Achraf Hakimi, Yassine Bounou and Yousef En-Nesyri made the shortlist.
Osimhen’s Napoli teammate, Frank Zambo-Anguissa, Vincent Aboubacar, Riyad Mahrez and Sofyan Amrabat were also included.
