Jang Refutes Allegations of Urging Mutfwang to Concede Defeat

The leader of the PDP in the state, dismissed the report as entirely false, existing solely in the writer's imagination

Former Plateau State governor, Senator Jonah Jang

Former Plateau State governor, Senator Jonah Jang, has categorically denied reports claiming he advised Governor Caleb Mutfwang to resign and concede victory to his All Progressives Congress (APC) rival, Nentawe Yilwatda, following the March 2023 governorship election.

A publication circulated widely on social media on Wednesday, titled “Jang Advises Mutfwang to Resign and Hand over to APC’s Nentawe Yilwatda,” stirred considerable attention, especially in light of the recent Court of Appeal ruling that nullified Mutfwang’s victory and instructed INEC to issue the certificate of return to Yilwatda.

Responding swiftly to the publication, Jang, the leader of the PDP in the state, dismissed the report as entirely false, existing solely in the writer’s imagination.

In a statement issued by his media consultant, Clinton Garuba, Jang expressed awareness of alleged attempts to compromise the judiciary by forces seeking to undermine the will of the Plateau people who voted for the PDP.

“Senator Jonah Jang, like other democracy advocates, is bewildered by the Court of Appeal’s decision, which contradicts the 2023 Electoral Act and established Supreme Court precedents. He views the November 18th judgment as a miscarriage of justice and firmly believes that the land’s highest court will rectify this injustice,” the statement read.
