Kano Government uncovers 3,234 ineligible workers in public service

Kano state government has says no fewer than 3,234 workers earning salaries in the state public service have been found ineligible for employment.

Besides, the Government revealed that a 13 years old girl, students of primary and secondary, members of National Youth Service Corps are among the ineligible workers recruited by the immediate past administration.

Recall that Governor Abba Kabiru Yusuf directed immediate suspension of salaries of about 12,566 public servants in the last minutes recruitment of Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje’s government.

The NNPP government subsequently constituted 22 high power members committee to investigate the development and make recommendations on the next line of action.

Addressing journalists on the development Friday morning, Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Abdullahi Baffa Bichi said the committee has submitted its report and recommendations after two months assignment.

According to the SSG, the committee discovered that despite the hastened employment exercise, the immediate past administration failed to capture the financial implication in the 2023 appropriation. He said it was sad to uncovered that majority of those recruited did not go through former screening exercise while some get the job with fake certificates.

Dr. Bichi revealed that part of the recommendations sanctioned by the government include offering 9,332 with relevant qualifications employment opportunity into the service.

He said appropriate sanctions will be metted to, especially those civil servants that carried out the action in line with civil service rules.

Specifically, the SSG disclosed that those that would be sanction include the mother of the 13 years old girl who confirmed to the committee that he has been receiving salaries through her mother’s account who is a worker in the public service.
