- Former Health Minister Gabriel Aduku urges President Tinubu to directly allocate 13% oil revenue derivation to host communities, bypassing governors
- Aduku emphasizes concerns about mismanagement and advocates for more effective and targeted use of resources by empowering host communities
Gabriel Aduku, a former Minister of Health, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to ensure that the 13% oil revenue derivation is directly paid to oil-producing communities. Speaking to reporters in Abuja on Wednesday, Aduku expressed concerns about the mismanagement of the substantial funds, amounting to trillions of naira, by governors of oil-producing states.
He appealed to the president to intervene and ensure that the 13% revenue derivation formula is administered directly to the host communities, bypassing the involvement of state governors. Aduku emphasized that allowing the direct beneficiaries, the host communities, to manage the funds would ensure more effective and targeted use of the resources.
Aduku, who previously served as an elected member of Abacha’s Constitutional Conference between 1994 and 1995 and chaired the revenue allocation committee, highlighted the economic challenges faced by oil-producing communities due to pollution caused by the activities of oil firms.
