Senator Nwoko Criticizes Lack of Transparency in President Tinubu’s 2024 Budget

Nwoko expressed dissatisfaction with the budget's failure to provide a clear roadmap on how outlined allocations and policies would directly impact the lives of ordinary Nigerians

Senator Ned Munir Nwoko

Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North, has voiced concerns over the transparency of the 2024 budget recently presented by President Bola Tinubu. Nwoko contends that the budget’s project selection lacks clarity and internal revenue generation.

In his discussion with journalists on the budget’s principles, Nwoko emphasized the absence of transparency and raised questions about its ability to address the essential needs of Nigerians.

He stated, “The presented budget falls short in addressing critical aspects necessary for citizen welfare. Transparency in project selection and allocation is pivotal. While emphasising equitable and sector-aligned projects is commendable, ensuring greater transparency in these processes is vital to ensure genuine benefits to the masses and alignment with Nigeria’s development goals.”

Nwoko expressed dissatisfaction with the budget’s failure to provide a clear roadmap on how outlined allocations and policies would directly impact the lives of ordinary Nigerians. He stressed that citizens are more interested in understanding the practical implications of proposed measures on their daily lives rather than the budget’s large numbers.

As an advocate for an economy that serves the masses, Nwoko acknowledged the necessity of government borrowing to provide essential services but underscored the importance of revenue generation within the country. He criticized the decision to set the exchange rate at N750 per dollar, deeming it detrimental to the naira’s value. Nwoko urged the government to focus on transparently generating revenue within Nigeria, utilizing it wisely to improve the lives of the people.

In conclusion, Senator Nwoko’s critique highlights the need for greater transparency in budgetary processes and a focus on internal revenue generation to ensure positive impacts on the lives of ordinary Nigerians.
