- Ibezim explained that no land in the state is demarcated with the use of sign board, kicking against the installation by communities for according to him, the boundary commission uses monuments as their official demarcation
The Anambra State government has collaborated with the state boundary commission headed by the deputy governor, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim, to intervene in the boundary issues claiming lives and properties of citizens in Anambra East Local Government Area and Oyi Local Government Area of the state.
The Deputy Governor, with the state boundary team on visiting both communities on Sunday, reminded the Umueri and Ogbunike communities respectively, that one of Governor Soludo’s oath of office during the swearing in, was to protect lives and properties of Anambra people.
Ibezim explained that no land in the state is demarcated with the use of sign board, kicking against the installation by communities for according to him, the boundary commission uses monuments as their official demarcation.
The Deputy Governor reminded them that no lost life can be regained after the dispute stressing that dialogue is the way out for peaceful coexistence for the communities.
He urged the people to sheath their swords as the state government and the commission are already intervening in the matter.
He furthered that any violence henceforth will be a violation of the peaceful process of which the boundary commission will rest its powers on the violated community.
Dr. Ibezim also called on the youths to resist being manipulated into destroying properties and lives of one another by the affluent of both communities.
In his contribution, the traditional ruler of Umueri community, Igwe Bennett Emeka narrated the recent development in their community saying, “the building of Chinua Achebe Airport and the Orient petroleum company on our land, are the major reasons the people of Enugwu Ogbunike kept on encroaching and selling our lands.”
He called on the state government to intervene immediately and bring lasting peace.
