The 35 Artillery Brigade of the Nigerian Army has undertaken community development initiatives by donating a solar-powered borehole to the Alamala Community in Abeokuta North Local Government Area of Ogun State. Additionally, the Brigade conducted free medical tests for 1,000 residents in the Owode community, Yewa North Local Government Area.
Brigadier General Mohammed Aminu, the Brigade Commander, emphasized that the borehole donation is part of the brigade’s civil-military cooperation activities aimed at giving back to society. The solar-powered borehole is intended to address chronic water shortages in the Alamala Community.
During the commissioning of the water project, Brigadier General Aminu stated, “Today, we have fulfilled our promise by sinking a solar-powered borehole. I believe this project will significantly impact the lives of the community and society at large.” The community leader, High Chief Akimade Yemi, expressed gratitude for the water project, acknowledging its importance in addressing water scarcity challenges.
In Owode, the Brigade Commander highlighted the significance of the free medical tests, emphasizing the promotion of healthy living for residents in host communities. He urged continued cooperation and support from the residents for the military and other security agencies.
The Amona Oba of Owode Yewa, Chief Nojeem Olubiyi, commended the Nigerian Army for its commitment to community welfare. He stated that such gestures strengthen the positive relationship between the army and the local community.
The medical outreach featured a diverse range of services, including free eye tests, high blood pressure checks, and general medical examinations. Residents took advantage of the initiative to receive treatment for various ailments, and free eye glasses and treated mosquito nets were distributed as part of the community support efforts.
