The Borno State command of the Nigeria Police Force reported the successful defusal of an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) at the entrance of the University of Maiduguri on Monday.
This was confirmed by the state’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Nahum Daso, during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Maiduguri on Tuesday.
Daso mentioned that at approximately 9 am on Monday, December 4, a suspicious device was discovered near the main gate of the institution. The command promptly dispatched personnel from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team to the location, and they confirmed that the device was a fabricated Improvised Explosive Device (IED).
“In swift response, the Command’s Explosive Ordnance Department (EOD) swung into action and successfully diffused the IED, without loss of lives or property,” he said.
He said that the command had started an investigation to uncover the perpetrators and their motive.
The police spokesman urged residents in the state to report any suspicious objects or persons to the nearest security outfit nearest to them to avert loss of lives and properties.
