- Ondo State’s PDP accuses Governor Akeredolu’s commissioners of mismanaging state finances, expressing concern over governance during his health challenges
- Commissioner for Information refutes allegations, asserting checks and balances in approving funds, denying misappropriation claims by the PDP
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State has accused Governor Rotimi Akeredolu’s commissioners of misappropriating the state’s finances and resources, raising concerns about the governance vacuum amid the governor’s health challenges.
Fatai Adams, the Chairman of the PDP in the state, expressed dismay over the prolonged absence of Governor Akeredolu and his reluctance to hand over to his Deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa. The opposition party contends that the state’s finances are being mismanaged, adversely affecting development and the well-being of the people.
Addressing journalists at a press conference in Akure, Adams challenged Governor Akeredolu to provide a transparent account of the state’s finances, urging him to follow the example of his predecessors.
In response, Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mrs. Bamidele Olateju-Ademola, refuted the allegations, labelling them as untrue. She asserted that despite Governor Akeredolu’s health challenges, the state government maintains checks and balances in approving funds. Olateju-Ademola emphasized that no cabinet member is involved in misappropriating funds, as claimed by the PDP.
She stated, “The government has checks and balances, especially in approving state funds. For instance, I have a limit to the amount I can approve as a commissioner in the state.”
