South East Youth Leaders Urge Tinubu to Release Nnamdi Kanu

The group believes that the unconditional release of Nnamdi Kanu would demonstrate Tinubu's consistency with the values he professed

Nnamdi Kanu

The Coalition of South East Youth Leaders (COSEYL) has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to release Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), from the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS). The group, through its President General, Goodluck Ibem, stated on Saturday that releasing Kanu would underscore Tinubu’s commitment to the rule of law and respect for court orders.

COSEYL highlighted Tinubu’s past advocacy for the rule of law, citing his involvement in the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO) during the fight against military rule. The group believes that the unconditional release of Nnamdi Kanu would demonstrate Tinubu’s consistency with the values he professed and fought for during the military era.

The statement expressed optimism that Kanu’s release would contribute to ending the insecurity in the southeast region. COSEYL anticipated widespread celebration in the region, especially after the Supreme Court’s scheduled hearing on Kanu’s case on December 15, 2023.

COSEYL stated, “The entire Southeast geopolitical zone is waiting earnestly to receive their son Mazi Nnamdi Kanu as the Supreme Court decides on his matter on 15 December 2023. We will celebrate President Tinubu for upholding the rule of law and respecting the Court judgment by releasing Nnamdi Kanu from DSS custody.”

South East govs, senators working against Nnamdi Kanu’s freedom – Ohanaeze

The apex Igbo sociopolitical organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, says some influential and powerful politicians from the South East are sabotaging moves to get Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, released.

The group alleged that two Southeast governors, senators, and Igbo leaders were among those behind this heinous move.

Ohanaeze alleged that those identified wanted Kanu transferred to Kuje Prisons instead of being released due to the upcoming Anambra governorship elections.

The apex Igbo sociopolitical organisation threatened to expose the identities of these individuals and groups if they continued their hideous and diabolical activities that hindered Kanu’s release on December 15, 2023.
