The State Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Niger State has imposed a three-month suspension on Gambo Ibrahim, the party Chairman of Suleja Local Government Area, citing alleged misconduct and abuse of office.
In a letter dated December 7, the Acting Secretary of the state party, Alhaji Shuaibu Isah, stated that the suspension resulted from the resolutions of the State Working Committee. Ibrahim was accused of disrespecting and deviating from the party’s constitutionally established protocol and institutions.
The letter highlighted various allegations, including the failure to deliver messages, directives, stipends, and gifts as instructed by the party. It also noted Ibrahim’s connection to the crisis in Kurmi-Sarki Ward, attributing it to his actions or inactions as the Local Government Area party chairman.
The suspension was justified by the committee’s perception that Ibrahim’s actions did not align with the party’s progress, as he allegedly failed to adhere to the provisions of the party’s constitution. As a result, the State Working Committee approved a three-month suspension, during which the Vice Chairman of the Local Government Area was directed to assume Ibrahim’s functions and responsibilities in an acting capacity, as outlined in the letter.
NNPP Urges APC to Channel Energy Into Governance, Not Opposition Muzzling
The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has advised the All Progressives Congress (APC) to redirect its focus towards effective governance instead of expending energy on suppressing opposition parties.
In a press conference held in Abuja, Ladipo Johnson, the national auditor of NNPP, conveyed the party’s message, emphasizing that the APC, under President Bola Tinubu, should allocate a significant portion, at least 25%, of its energy to governance for a positive impact on the country’s economy.
Johnson, reading from a prepared speech signed by the acting national chairman of NNPP, highlighted the detrimental effects of the government’s lack of concentration on governance. He pointed out that this lapse has contributed to rising poverty levels and an escalation of insecurity, adversely affecting many Nigerians.
“The APC government seems more inclined towards suppressing opposition parties and other institutions in the country than providing good governance,” Johnson remarked during the press conference.
