- Victor Osimhen agrees to a contract extension with Napoli, reportedly signing a one-year extension with a potential €130 million release clause
- The Super Eagles striker’s decision deals a blow to top European clubs, including Chelsea, which had shown interest in Osimhen
Victor Osimhen, the Super Eagles striker, has dealt a blow to Chelsea and other top European clubs by agreeing to a contract extension with his current club, Napoli.
Football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed that the 24-year-old striker is set to sign a one-year extension, extending his contract until 2026, accompanied by a new release clause.
The anticipated release clause is expected to be approximately €130 million, potentially making Osimhen the most expensive player in Italy and one of the most expensive globally when activated.
Romano stated, “Napoli reach an agreement in principle with Victor Osimhen on a new contract with a release clause included! It will be valid until June 2026, one more year. Final value of the clause, TDB — could be around €130m as per Sky. Official announcement expected soon.”
Osimhen’s value has been further elevated by winning the 2023 Africa Footballer of the Year Award, acknowledging his outstanding performance during the 2022/23 season.
This development is a setback for top clubs, including Chelsea, which had reportedly expressed concrete interest in a potential January move for the Nigerian striker. Osimhen’s initial five-year deal with Napoli was scheduled to expire in the summer of 2025, creating interest from clubs looking to capitalize on the situation.
