- The court affirmed Senator Tambuwal’s election and awarded a fine of 500 thousand naira to the petitioner in favor of the defendant and the PDP.
- The court dismissed petitions filed by former deputy governor Manir Dan’iya against former governor and Senator Aliyu Wamakko, representing Sokoto North.
The election of Sokoto State senators Aliyu Wamakko and Aminu Tambuwal was approved by the Court of Appeal in Abuja.
Wamakko was challenged by ex-Deputy Governor Manir Dan’iya, and former Senator Ibrahim Danbaba ran against former Governor Tambuwal.
Under the direction of Justice Mustapha Muhammad, the panel of three judges dismissed the petitions filed against Tambuwal and Wamakko and fined Tambuwal and the PDP.
In a conversation with Punch, lead defence attorney for the defendant and PDP, Suleiman Usman, affirmed that Tambuwal’s election was upheld by the court and that the suit against Wamakko was dismissed.
Usman said, “The court just gave their judgment in respect to the two Senatorial elections in the state.
“While the election of Senator Tambuwal was affirmed by the court, the three-person justices, in their wisdom, also awarded a fine of N500,000 against the petitioner in favour of the defendant and the PDP.
“Meanwhile, the court also, in his wisdom, dismissed our petitions filed on behalf of the former deputy governor, Manir Dan’iya, against the former governor and Senator representing Sokoto North, Aliyu Wamakko.
“The court also awarded a fine which I cannot immediately recall against our client in favour of the defendant in this case.”
