Terrorists attack Sokoto village, kill one, abduct six


Marauding terrorists wreaking havoc in Nigeria’s northwest region have struck again in Sokoto state.

The armed non-state actors attacked Tursa village in Rabbah Local Government area of the State, killing at least one person.

Six other persons were abducted from the village during the Tuesday invasion.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Ahmed Rufai, confirmed the development to journalist on Tuesday morning in Sokoto.

He disclosed that the incident happened at midnight on Tuesday.

Rufai said, “The gunmen entered the village and set ablaze a room and burnt down the one person inside.

“They also burnt down two motorcycles in the process and kidnapped six persons while an undisclosed number of cows were also rustled in the process.”

He further promised to give more updates on the incident later, assuring that the state commissioner of police had ordered the manhunt of the suspected criminals.

In a related development, bandits have also kidnapped two village leaders in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara state.

Those abducted are the village head of Rakyabu, Magaji Sa,idu, and the Chief Imam of the village, Malam Abdullahi.

The duo were abducted from their homes when the bandits stormed the village on Monday night, a local said.

He said that the bandits demanded the sum of N5 million as ransom but the community were only able to raise N500,000 (five hundred thousand Naira).
