Bandits terrorising Nigeria’s northwest region have kidnapped two village leaders in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara state.

Those abducted are the village head of Rakyabu,  Magaji Sa,idu, and the Chief Imam of the village, Malam Abdullahi.

The duo were abducted from their homes when the bandits stormed the village on Monday night, a local said.

He said that the bandits demanded the sum of N5 million as ransom but the community were only able to raise N500,000 (five hundred thousand Naira).

“The N500,000 was raised through donations by the people of the village who wanted to rescue their village head and the Chief Imam. The bandits have collected the money but refused to release the victims.

“They collected the money and told us that we must pay the remaining balance which is N4.5 million,” he lamented.

He called on the relevant authorities to come immediately for the rescue of the victims.

The spokesperson of the State Police Command, ASP Yazid Abubakar could not be reached for comment as of the time of filing this report.
