The Nigeria police have dismissed two special constabularies, Jimoh Lukmon and Kareem Fatai, who were caught in a viral video trying to extort money from a Dutch tourist who was on a power bike en route to Abuja.
Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Adebola Hamzat, pronounced their dismissal at the state’s Police Headquarters in Eleyele, Ibadan on Thursday.
Lukmon and Fatai, who were on duty along Moniya-Iseyin road were seen in the video demanding money from the woman.
Following the incident the two Special Constabularies were arrested and a disciplinary procedure was instituted.
“Distinguished officers, gentlemen of the press, there was an incident on 23rd of October between Iseyin and Oyo Road. A tourist from Netherlands was passing to Abuja and the two Police Special Constabularies before you were demanding for money.
“I have reviewed the trial of the defaulters who are Special Constabulary Kareem Fatai and Special Constabulary Jimoh Lukmon who were captured on viral video dated 29 October 2023 demanding money from a Netherlands tourist.“
The Commissioner stated that he has affirmed the recommended punishment of dismissal for the pair.
He said they seize to be members of the Special Constabulary with immediate effect and hope that their dismissal will serve as a deterrent to others.
