In anticipation of the upcoming yuletide season, United Nigeria Airlines (UNA) is exploring the possibility of establishing direct flights connecting Kano to South East states.
Prof. Obiora Okonkwo, the Chairman of the airline, revealed this initiative during a visit to Kano, emphasizing that these flights aim to enhance travel convenience for passengers.
The request of the Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero influenced the decision to explore this route. During a recent courtesy visit by the airline’s management team to the palace, the Emir urged UNA to create routes connecting Kano to the South East.
Recent reports indicates that UNA had already initiated flights from Abuja to Kano as part of its expansion strategy into northern states. The launch of the Kano flight followed the earlier introduction of flights to Sokoto.
Expressing confidence in the positive impact of adding Kano to UNA’s destinations, the Emir highlighted the potential economic development for the state. He praised Prof. Obiora for fulfilling his commitment to commence Kano operations before the year-end, emphasizing the importance of integrity.
Acknowledging the Emir’s request, Prof. Obiora conveyed gratitude for the continuous support from the palace since the airline’s inception. He assured that UNA would soon introduce flights from Kano to the South East, facilitating seamless travel during the festive season. Currently, the airline serves Anambra, Enugu, and Owerri, contributing to enhanced regional connectivity.
