The former Manchester City midfielder snubbed three-time champions Nigeria and picked his country, Senegal, Morocco, Guinea-Bissau and South Africa as his favourites for the title.
“It is normal to have a preference for your own country. Ivory Coast has a strong team and many talented and experienced players,” Toure was quoted by wiwsport.com.
“But if I had to choose teams that I think are favourites, I would say Senegal, Morocco, Guinea-Bissau, South Africa. Their performance during qualifying was impressive.”
The Super Eagles are in Group A with Cote d’Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea and Guinea-Bissau.
The Teranga Lions are the defending champions of the competition.
The competition will run from January 13 to February 11.
