- The Director of Development Control urges adherence to the master plan and guidelines, emphasizing proper business conduct and waste management
The Ministerial Task Force on City Sanitation and Management in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has announced that tougher penalties will be imposed on violators of the Abuja Master Plan in the coming year.
Mr. Mukhtar Galadima, the Director of Development Control at FCT Administration, issued the warning during interactions with journalists after the committee’s end-of-year celebration in Abuja on Friday. Emphasizing that laws govern Abuja, and its development is guided by the provisions of the master plan and other development guidelines, Galadima urged individuals planning to erect properties in the capital city to adhere to the master plan and relevant guidelines.
He further stated, “Those who want to do businesses in the city should conduct these businesses in the areas designated for such purposes and should contribute to keeping Abuja clean. Don’t just come in, generate waste and go. You must be part of the team poised to keep Abuja clean.”
Galadima explained that the celebration marked the end of 2023 and provided an opportunity to reflect on the achievements, challenges, and prospects of the task force. He highlighted that the task force had achieved modest results and emphasized the importance of enjoying the moment.
Dr. Peter Olumuji, the Secretary of FCTA Command and Control, disclosed that the task force had resolved to carry out a series of enforcement activities in 2024 to restore the Abuja master plan in line with the directive of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike. He urged FCT residents to avoid any form of illegality, stating, “Wherever such exists, anywhere, the task force is coming to remove it.”
Mrs. Deborah Osho, the Head of Operations at the Directorate of Road Traffic Services, expressed the task force’s commitment to doing more in 2024, pledging to clean the city and eliminate illegal motor parks and commercial motorcycles operating on unapproved roads in Abuja.
