Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, unveiled a strategic initiative aimed at relocating Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) back to their ancestral homes. The governor disclosed this plan during the official launch of relief material distribution at the Nding IDP camp in Barkin-Ladi Local Government Area.
Addressing the IDPs, Governor Mutfwang urged resilience, emphasizing divine protection and ensuring ongoing governmental support to address challenges. “Our commitment is to resettle our people in their ancestral homes. Plateau residents are industrious and self-reliant, preferring livelihoods over handouts. This aligns with our government’s direction,” he stated.
Governor Mutfwang extended Christmas rice distribution to individuals in IDP camps, encouraging celebration despite circumstances. He called for state unity, urging people to share with those in need during the festive season. Gratitude was expressed to Dr. Richard Ikiebe and family for sourcing relief materials.
Commending their selfless service and global advocacy on Plateau, Benue, and Taraba conflicts, Governor Mutfwang recognized Dr. Ikiebe’s contributions.
Dr. Ikiebe, in response, shared insights from visits to displaced communities with deserted homes and worship places. He thanked Governor Mutfwang for steadfast support during challenging times, pledging unwavering commitment to addressing IDP plights.
Relief items, including rice, salt, maggi seasoning, and cooking oil, were distributed to households, particularly orphans, widows, and the elderly affected by decades of conflicts claiming lives and properties.
