In a heartfelt Christmas message, Governor Babagana Zulum extends warm wishes to Christians in Borno State, emphasizing the need to stand against religious discord. He calls on Nigerians to thwart attempts to disrupt the harmony among different faiths, highlighting that the nation’s adversaries do not discriminate based on religious affiliations when launching attacks.
Zulum acknowledges the shared challenges citizens face, irrespective of their faith, during the security crises. He points out that Boko Haram’s assaults targeted both mosques and churches, affecting Muslims and Christians alike across various regions in Borno State.
“The insurgents, indifferent to religious distinctions, displaced numerous individuals, leaving communities in the North, South, and central parts of Borno State in disarray,” Governor Zulum remarks in his Christmas address.
Expressing his commitment to humanitarian efforts, the governor stresses that his visits to diverse communities have always prioritized critical needs over religious considerations. He recounts visits to areas like Chibok, Askira-Uba, Hawul, Biu, Gwoza, Monguno, Baga, and Kala-Balge, emphasizing the impartiality in addressing the aftermath of insurgent attacks.
Despite the commendation received for rebuilding and resettling affected communities, Governor Zulum notes a concerning trend of some attempting to undermine the state’s core values and religious tolerance. He highlights the amicable coexistence of Muslim and Christian families within the state, underscoring the importance of resisting any divisive efforts, especially as Borno embarks on economic recovery.
“As the governor of Borno State, I pledge to stay focused and fair, prioritizing humanitarian needs in our responses across the state. Let us remain united, safeguarding the religious harmony that defines us,” Governor Zulum affirms, emphasizing the collective journey towards recovery, growth, and development in Borno State.
