Security operatives apprehend five suspected cultists in Osun

...suspects handed over to Police Anti-Cultism Unit for subsequent interrogation and prosecution

A joint patrol between the personnel of Amotekun Osun and the Osun State Police Command has arrested five suspected cultists.

The cultists, identified as Kareem Ojo, 32 years old, Adedamola Salami, aged 26, Olatunji Ezekiel, aged 24 years, Adeyeye Adekunle, aged 33 and Tope Oguntade, aged 35 years were arrested at different areas of Ilesa town.

They were also allegedly involved in drug dealing and dangerous weapons which include, axes, charms and guns, found in their possession at the time of their arrests.

According to a statement by the Osun Amotekun Corps Commander, Brigadier General Bashir Adewinmbi, they were apprehended by the Osun State Amotekun Anti-Cultism Squad led by the OC in a joint operation with Police Anti-Cultism Squad on Thursday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

“The suspects are, Kareem Ojo, 32 years, like choice area Ilesa, who was arrested with the drugs at 8:30 pm, Adedamola Salamo, 26 years was arrested at 6:30 pm in Irogbo Ilesha, cultist, and drug dealer, Olatunji Ezekiel, 24 years was arrested at Orogba Street Ilesha at 7:55 pm cultist and drug dealer, Adeyeye Adekunle, 33 years was arrested in Ilesha at Isokun, a cultist and drug dealer, Tope Oguntade, 35 years was arrested at Isokun Street Ilesha drug dealer and cultist arrested at 7:33 pm.

“Recall that the suspected cultists on Saturday launched an attack on the Amotekun Anti-Cultism Squad who were on patrol to forestall law and order during the Iwude ijesa celebration in Ilesa township, the operatives of the squad were attacked by the cultists with dangerous weapons, the operatives who sustained various degree of injuries during the attacks.

“The suspects after the arrests confessed to being members of the Eiye confraternity and they have been members for a long time.

“It was revealed that the suspects have been on the wanted list of the Osun Police Anti-Cultism Unit for a long time.

“The suspects who had been terrorizing Ilesa township for a long time and men of the Amotekun Anti-Cultism Squad swung into action immediately a complaint was lodged on the activities of the criminals and they were busted at different spots and arrested with dangerous weapons.

“During cross-examination, the suspects confessed to being a member of the Eiye confraternity and they have been members for a long time.

“They have been on the wanted list of the Osun Police Anti-Cultism Unit for a very long time before luck ran against them.

“The suspects have been handed over to the Police Anti-Cultism Unit for subsequent interrogation and prosecution,” Adewinmbi said.
