“Among the victims were one woman who was burnt to death along with her daughter-in-law and two children right inside their room,” Yusuf was quoted as saying.

He added that the terrorists later had a shootout with the army.

“We are suspecting they (terrorists) too suffered heavy losses because we saw bloodstains where they parked their motorcycles. But you know they don’t leave their corpses behind,” he added.

But according to the Nigeria Police Force, only seven people were killed by the terrorists during the attack.

The spokesman for the Sokoto Police Command, ASP Ahmed Rufa’i, added that they were still compiling casualty figures.

The army recovered 66 abductees last Thursday and Saturday after raiding Gundumi forest in the state’s eastern past.

According to a credible source, many bandits were slain during the operation.
