- Bako had previously faced imprisonment twice for similar rape offenses
A Bauchi State High Court has sentenced Yusuf Bako, aged 50, to life imprisonment for raping a young girl inside a mosque in Bauchi metropolis.
This conviction comes after Bako’s arrest in 2020 for the heinous act against an unidentified four-year-old during the COVID-19 lockdown.
Reportedly, Bako had previously faced imprisonment twice for similar rape offenses.
Barrister Sha’awanatu Yusuf, the Director of Public Prosecution, confirmed the conviction and reiterated the Ministry’s dedication to securing justice for rape victims, emphasizing the enforcement of the VAPP Law in the state.
The judgement, delivered by Justice Sa’ad Zadawa of High Court No.6 in late November this year, followed a thorough examination of evidence from both sides.
Yusuf urged parents to collaborate with authorities in the prosecution of offenders.
It’s worth noting that Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, endorsed the VAPP Law in 2022, imposing stringent penalties for convicted rape offenders. This sentencing underlines the state’s commitment to addressing such egregious crimes and ensuring stricter consequences for perpetrators.
