President Bola Tinubu asserted on Wednesday that the ongoing “financial re-engineering” spearheaded by his administration is poised to yield a robust economy and unparalleled opportunities for Nigerians. He addressed this during a town hall meeting at the State House in Marina, Lagos, engaging with traditional rulers, local government chairpersons, and other political officeholders.

Expressing determination, Tinubu emphasized the commitment to guiding Nigeria through a tunnel of hope, stability, and economic prosperity. His Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, conveyed the President’s message, highlighting the administration’s unwavering focus on revamping Nigeria’s economy and creating opportunities for meaningful youth participation.

In a statement titled ‘President Tinubu: Nigeria is being re-engineered for the prosperity of all and not an elite minority,’ Ngelale shared Tinubu’s assurance that the team is diligently working to deliver the best economy and opportunities. The President called for patience and support from citizens as the ongoing reforms take shape.

Tinubu acknowledged the complexities of state matters that have limited his accessibility, urging understanding from long-term friends and political allies. He underscored the collective nature of the monumental task, emphasizing the need for active listening, tolerance, and the ability to navigate unexpected challenges.

During the meeting, Tinubu mourned the death of Governor Rotimi Akeredeolu of Ondo and former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ghali Na’Abba. Reflecting on the transient nature of power, he stressed the importance of values and goodness in actions for the benefit of future generations.

Recalling his tenure as Governor of Lagos State (1999 – 2007), Tinubu reflected on the challenges and successes in steering the state away from turbulence. He expressed gratitude for the support and affirmed his confidence in Lagos continuing on the path of glory.

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, lauded Tinubu’s leadership, citing the enduring legacy and blueprint created over 20 years ago. The Ayangburen of Ikorodu, Oba Kabiru Shotobi, called for a constitutional amendment recognizing the role of traditional rulers, reiterating loyalty to the President and expressing confidence in Nigeria’s economic prospects under his leadership.

The meeting marked Tinubu’s second public gathering since his arrival in Lagos for the holidays a week ago, signalling an ongoing engagement with stakeholders and a focus on transparent communication regarding the administration’s vision and ongoing reforms.
