BREAKING: Nigerian Army Arrests Soldier For Fatally Shooting Truck Driver In Borno

The Division is working to ensure justice for the victim's family, arresting the soldier in question and initiating an investigation.

The unfortunate death of a truck driver at a checkpoint on the Maiduguri – Dikwa – Gamboru road has been connected to the arrest of a soldier, according to the Nigerian Army’s 7 Division in Maiduguri.

Following the shooting on Boxing Day, which resulted from an altercation between the motorist and the soldier, angry commercial drivers blocked the crucial border road, stranding a great number of people.

In a statement released today, 7 Division Public Relations Officer Lt. Col. A.Y. Jingina confirmed the soldier’s detention.

In response to a complaint brought forward by the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Jingina pledged a thorough investigation and underlined the Division’s steadfast dedication to providing the deceased’s family with justice.

He pledged an exhaustive inquiry into the incident, vowing that no stone would be left unturned.

“The Division has assured both the family of the deceased and the NURTW of its commitment to ensure that justice is served to the family and no stone would be left unturned in this regard.

“In the Division’s effort towards ensuring that the family of the victim gets justice, the soldier in question has been arrested, and an investigation has commenced.

“It’s also worthy to mention that the Division does not tolerate any form of unprofessional conduct from any personnel as we operate within the ambit of the law.

“The Division wishes to once again reassure the members of the general public that we will remain resolute and professional in the joint effort to tackle insecurity in Borno State,” Jingina said.
