The Rivers Elders and Leadership Forum have penned a letter to President Bola Tinubu, expressing reservations about the eight-point resolution between Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike and Rivers State Governor Similanayi Fubara. The forum, comprising former governors, deputy governors, academia, technocrats, traditional rulers, and community leaders, highlighted concerns that the resolution favoured the FCT minister and was not feasible.
In the letter signed by former Governor Rufus Ada George, Dr. GTG Toby, former Deputy Governor of Rivers State, Senator Andrew Uchendu, Senator Ben Birabi, Chief Anabs Sara Igbe, and others, the forum conveyed that the resolution was detrimental to the governor, the governance of the state, and the interests of the people of Rivers State.
The forum observed an imbalance in the composition and attendance during the meeting, noting a lack of equilibrium between the warring factions. Emphasizing that the eight resolutions were impractical, the forum argued that implementing such resolutions would contradict the Constitution and the rule of law.
The letter serves as a plea to President Tinubu, urging a reevaluation of the resolution for a more balanced and constitutionally sound outcome that serves Rivers State’s and its people’s best interests.
