- Police recovered four boxer motorcycles which were stolen from their victims
The Police in Niger State have arrested three notorious motorcycle snatchers who allegedly specialized in using hammers and cutlasses to disposse and kill their victims.
The suspects include Alhaji Dan Asabe (aka Gindo), 50, of Banwuya area, Bida, Mohammed Adamu, 20, of Etsu Audu, Lemu and Tanko Yusuf, 40, of Bida road, Gidan-Mai, Bida.
Four other members of the gang are at large.
The police also recovered four boxer motorcycles which were stolen from their victims, and usually sold between N50,000 and N60,000 to unsuspecting members of the public.
Niger State Police Public Relations Officer, PRO, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, who made the disclosure in Minna, revealed that the suspects were nabbed based on credible information from residents.
“The suspects revealed that dead victims’ motorcycles are mostly expensive, because it is usually sold with keys and it is believed that nobody would lay claim to it, while that of injured victims are less expensive.
“He (Mohammed) further confessed that he had been snatching motorcycles with one Basulube, who is currently at large, and that they usually sell such motorcycles to Alhaji Dan Asabe (aka Gindo),” the Police spokesman stated.
He explained that Adamu led the Police operatives to Gindo’s residence in Bida, where he was arrested.
According to him, “The said Gindo was discovered to be an ex-convict, as he narrated that he had participated in a series of robbery of motorcyclists and other crimes for more than six years, before being arrested, prosecuted and convicted in Bida.”
Abiodun further noted that Gindo returned from a three-year jail term in March this year, and further engaged himself in receiving stolen motorcycles from Basulube and Adamu.
