- His notice of resignation was contained in a letter dated 29th December 2023 and addressed to the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Professor Mahmood Yakubu.

The troubled speaker of a faction in the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. (Barr.) Ehie Ogerenye Edison, has resigned.
The state’s already tumultuous political climate is heightened by the abrupt departure.
In a letter to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Edison, a supporter of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, tendered his resignation. He gave his decision personal justifications.
A few weeks ago, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lost 27 legislators who supported former governor Nyesom Wike to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Following this episode, the two sides engaged in a power battle, with the PDP asking for the seats held by the defectors to be declared vacant.
Tensions between Fubara and Wike, who are supposedly fighting for control of the state’s political system, are the reason behind Edison’s resignation. President Bola Tinubu intervened in the dispute earlier this month and urged all sides to uphold calm.
