- The resolution signed by parties during the peace meeting held at the instance of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu included the recognition of Rt. Hon. Martins Amaewhule as Speaker of the House.
- However, there was no clause mandating Ehie to vacate his seat as a member of the House.
The immediate-past Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Edison Ehie, has been named as Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s new Chief of Staff.
Strong Fubara loyalist Ehie takes over as Chief of Staff from Hon. Chidi Amadi, a kinsman of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Ezenwo Wike.
There were concerns regarding the political manoeuvre made by the immediate past speaker when he resigned on Sunday night from his roles as speaker and member of the Rivers State House of Assembly representing Ahoada-East Constituency 2.
Recall that the recognition of Rt. Hon. Martins Amaewhule as Speaker of the House was part of the resolution that the parties to the peace conference, called at President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s request, signed.
Nevertheless, there was no provision requiring Ehie to resign from his House position.
