Gunmen attack Rivers’ community, kill monarch


Rampaging gunmen wreaking havoc in Nigeria’s oil-rich southern state of Rivers have struck again.

The gunmen attacked Ahaoda West Local Government Area of the State on Tuesday.

The paramount ruler of Anwunugbokor, a community in the local government area, was killed during the attack.

The late Chief Innocent Ekwereogwu was murdered in cold blood in his house in the early hours of Tuesday at Odiemerenyi.

Prior to his assassination, he was the chairman of the Ubie Council of Chiefs, was gunned down where he lived in Ahaoda East.

It’s gathered that the assassins invaded the place and shot him at 12:16 am. His body has since been deposited at the mortuary.

The Rivers State Police Command has yet to make an official statement regarding the incident.

Ahaoda West Local Government has become the hotbed of nefarious criminal activities and violent attacks in recent years with many residents losing their lives and properties destroyed, as all manner of armed non-state actors wreak havoc in the enclave.
