Fire razes COVID-19 ward in Kwara hospital

Reports suggest an unidentified individual ignited a section near the facility, leading to the spread of flames to one of the wards within the COVID-19 center

The COVID-19 Centre, housed within Sobi Specialist Hospital in Alagbado, Ilorin, Kwara State, and owned by the Kwara State Government, has been engulfed in a devastating fire.

Reports suggest an unidentified individual ignited a section near the facility, leading to the spread of flames to one of the wards within the COVID-19 center.

Hassan Adekunle, the Head of the Department of Media and Publicity for the State Fire Service, confirmed the incident through a statement.

He said, “On Tuesday, January 2, 2024, at 08:47 hours, the Kwara State Fire Service swiftly responded to a fire incident at Sobi Specialist Hospital (COVID-19 Centre) Alagbado, Ilorin.

“Upon arrival, the firemen found one of the six wards were set ablaze and immediately began fire-fighting efforts to contain and extinguish the flames, showcasing their expertise to prevent extensive damage.”

According to him, the swift response by the service prevented major damage at the COVID-19 Centre, as well as any loss of lives.
