Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has pledged to address the pressing issue of erosion, particularly in Oko community within the Orumba-North Local Government Area.

To this end, the governor has implemented a ban on sand excavation in the region, extending the prohibition to encompass other communities like Nanka, Amaokpala Awgbu, and Ekwulobia in Aguata Local Government Area.

During the unveiling of the ‘Alex Ekwueme Civic Centre,’ constructed by the Oko Community to honor the late former Vice-President Alex Ekwueme, Governor Soludo emphasized the forthcoming enforcement of an Executive Order aimed at rigorously upholding the ban. He emphasized stringent sanctions for any individual involved in unauthorized sand excavation activities.

Reflecting on the enduring contributions of the late former vice-president to the community’s education, infrastructure, and healthcare sectors, Soludo urged affluent individuals in the vicinity to uphold Ekwueme’s legacy by financing projects that foster community development. This includes initiatives focused on road construction, scholarships, healthcare, and more.
