Abia Govt Denies Lifting Ban On Church’s Convention, Endorsing General Overseer

Recalls that the state government banned the church's annual convention for 2024 due to a crisis

The Apostolic Christian Church Mission, ACCM, annual gathering in Aba is still prohibited, as the Abia State Government has reaffirmed.

Due to the recent leadership turmoil that has overtaken the church, the annual conference, usually takes place in January in Aba, has not been held.

The state authorities has prohibited the church’s 2024 annual meeting in the wake of the controversy.

In a statement, Apostle K.C. Wiper, Special Assistant on Religious Matters to Governor Alex Otti, revealed that the state government was alerted to a post on the church’s Facebook page that purported the governor had recognised the church’s General Overseer and approved the annual convention.

He said: “Let it be known to all and sundry that Dr. Alex Otti has neither approved the lifting of ban earlier placed on the 2024 annual convention nor endorsed anyone as General Overseer.

“It is important to state categorically that the Governor has no role in selecting leadership for the church, or any church for that matter.”
