Terrorists kidnap passengers on Abuja-Kaduna expressway

Sani disclosed this via a post on X platform (formerly Twitter), stating that the abduction took place near Kateri village around 9 pm

Former federal lawmaker and social activist, Senator Shehu Sani, has confirmed the abduction of numerous passengers by a group of terrorists who blocked the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway on Sunday.

Sani disclosed this via a post on X platform (formerly Twitter), stating that the abduction took place near Kateri village around 9 pm.

Additionally, the former lawmaker noted that individuals from both the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) and opposition parties narrowly escaped being abducted by the terrorists.

“Just when we felt safer, yesternight kidnappers returned to the Kaduna Abuja road. They blocked the road, abducted some scores of persons around 9pm near Kateri village. Two of my Honorable friends from both the ruling and opposition parties had to run through the bush like Usain Bolt. But despite this incidence, there is stronger security presence along the route than it used to be in the past,” Sani said.

When Sahara Reporters reached out to Muhammad Jalagie, the Kaduna Police Spokesman, for comments, there was no response despite multiple attempts through calls and text messages.

The Abuja-Kaduna highway has unfortunately become a frequent target for terrorist attacks and abductions.

During the last two presidential terms of Muhammadu Buhari, the highway gained notoriety as one of the most perilous routes for travelers due to the relentless incidents of kidnappings and killings.

In June 2022, the Kaduna State command of the Nigeria Police Force confirmed a bandit attack on the Abuja-Kaduna Road. However, the joint efforts of the police’s Operation Puff Adder and the Nigerian Army’s Operation Thunder Strike successfully thwarted the abduction attempt along the Kaduna-Abuja Highway.
