Anambra: APC slams governor Soludo for suspending monarch

Charles Soludo

The South East chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed shock at the decision of the Anambra State government to suspend the traditional ruler of Neni Community, HRH Damian Onwuamaeze Ezeani.

According to reports, Ezeani suspension was not unconnected to the conferment of a chieftaincy title on the senator representing Anambra South, Ifeanyi Ubah.

Ubah is also a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and the Chieftaincy title is linked to the governorship ambition of Ubah which will pit him against the incumbent governor, Charles Soludo.

Reacting to the development, the Southeast chapter of APC said Soludo’s action was an aberration and an insult to the Igbo traditional institutions.

In a press statement released by the South East zonal chairman of APC, Dr Ijeomah Arodiogbu, on Wednesday, the party implored the Igbo apex socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, to intervene in the matter.

The statement read: “We received with shock the recent suspension of an esteemed traditional ruler, HRH Damian Ezeani, the Igwe of Neni Community. At first, we thought there was some untruth in the story until its confirmation. It is indeed sad and deserving of full condemnation for such an aberrational affront against the Igbo traditional institution, which we should cherish and nurture rather than drag into the mud.

“What is Igwe Neni’s offence? That he conferred a title on a Senator of APC extraction? Is he the first to have done so? Or is it merely politics? Otherwise, can we not see this as a move to make the prestigious crowns and stools in Anambra State an appendage of the APGA-led administration?

“We thus call on Igbos all over the world and the leadership of the Pan-Igbo organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, and other Igbo groups, likewise, well-meaning Nigerians, to call the administrations of Chukwuma Soludo to order.”
