Abel Olumuyiwa Enitan, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, has assumed leadership of the ministry.
This occurs a few days after President Bola Tinubu removed Minister Betta Edu due to her suspected involvement in the embezzlement of more than N500 million.
President Tinubu’s order, which suspended Edu on Monday due to the purported transfer of monies into private accounts, is in accordance with Enitan’s action.
After receiving a letter to that effect on Monday night from the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Enitan assumed leadership.
In an earlier statement by his spokesperson, Ajuri Ngelale, President Tinubu directed the suspended Minister to hand over to the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.
The statement read: “She is further directed by the President to fully cooperate with the investigating authorities as they conduct their investigation.
“Furthermore, the President has tasked a panel that is headed by the Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance to, among other functions, conduct a comprehensive diagnostic on the financial architecture and framework of the social investment programmes with a view to conclusively reforming the relevant institutions and programmes in a determined bid to eliminate all institutional frailties for the exclusive benefit of disadvantaged households and win back lost public confidence in the initiative.”
