Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has declared that individuals no longer need to journey to Abuja for data changes related to passports.

Tunji-Ojo shed light on the newly implemented automated online passport application system by the Nigerian Immigration Service during an interview on Channel TV. The minister revealed that a streamlined online platform now caters to both international and Nigerian applicants.

He emphasized, “Gone are the days of travelling to Abuja for data changes. The process is simplified – log into the portal and follow the same application procedure. Whether you’re an international or local applicant, altering your data is a renewal process. Just upload the changes within the system.”

The minister clarified that the responsibility for data changes lies with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC). Once modifications are made in the NIMC system, it seamlessly synchronizes with the immigration system, eliminating the need for physical visits.

To enhance customer support, Tunji-Ojo announced that the immigration helpline would be operational 24/7. He expressed the importance of instilling a sense of ownership among the public, citing removing previous obstacles and establishing a dedicated help desk.

This move marks a significant stride towards hassle-free passport processes, making it more accessible and efficient for applicants without the necessity of physical travel to Abuja. As the immigration system embraces technological advancements, citizens can anticipate a more user-friendly and convenient experience in updating passport details.
