Tokunbo Wahab, Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources in Lagos, emphasized that the removal of inner street gates in certain areas of the state was done in the residents’ best interest.
The state government’s decision on December 21 targeted permanently closed inner street gates in the Lekki area, aiming to alleviate accessibility challenges faced by residents, particularly in Lekki 1.
Speaking at a meeting organized by Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Oshiyemi, Wahab acknowledged the decision’s regrettable nature but explained it was necessary to regulate operations at Lekki Phase 1, a government scheme.
He assured that the removed gates, all in good condition, would be reinstated upon reaching an agreement on reinstallation modalities.
Furthermore, Wahab specified that any agreement would mandate the gates to remain open until midnight, manned by security personnel, ensuring smooth entry and exit for all residents.
