The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) successfully intercepted a smuggling attempt of 300,000 tramadol pills at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, on Friday.
According to Mr. Femi Babafemi, NDLEA’s spokesperson, the pills were illicitly brought in from Pakistan. In a separate operation on January 9, various quantities of tramadol and Indian hemp, cleverly concealed in the soles of sports canvas shoes destined for Oman, were also seized at two courier firms in Lagos.
Furthermore, a consignment of tramadol and Rohypnol, cunningly hidden in spices and intended for the United Kingdom, was intercepted by NDLEA.
Highlighting additional successes, Babafemi shared that a 24-year-old man was apprehended in Katsina State on January 10 with 25.5kg of hemp during a buy-and-burst operation at Kurmi Primary School in Malumfashi, Katsina State.
In a separate operation, NDLEA operatives arrested an individual in Gombe with 47 blocks of Indian hemp, weighing 30kg and concealed within two sacks of groundnuts.
These operations underscore the NDLEA’s commitment to curbing drug trafficking and ensuring the safety of the nation.
