- President Tinubu commends ex-President Buhari’s non-interference in current administration, praising his hands-off approach and commitment to democracy
- Books on Buhari’s post-presidential conduct reveal collaborative efforts with Tinubu, emphasizing non-intrusive leadership and positive impact on Nigerian democracy
Former President Muhammadu Buhari’s restraint from imposing himself on the current administration since his handover in May 2023 has earned commendation from President Bola Tinubu. Tinubu expressed gratitude during the launch of books authored by Buhari’s former media aide, Femi Adesina, in Abuja on Tuesday.
Titled “Working with Buhari (2015 – 2023)” and “Muhammadu Buhari: The Nigerian Legacy – 2015 – 2023 (Vols 1-5),” the books shed light on Buhari’s post-presidential conduct.
According to Tinubu, Buhari, now residing in Daura, has refrained from nominating anyone for cabinet appointments or meddling in governmental affairs. Tinubu highlighted Buhari’s commitment to non-interference, quoting the former president as saying, “I won’t intrude on whatever you are doing. I won’t interfere. I won’t breathe down on your throat.”
The book “Working with Buhari,” reviewed by former CNN Journalist of the Year, Shola Oshunkeye, details the collaborative efforts between Buhari and Tinubu in fostering democracy. Similarly, the book “Muhammadu Buhari: The Nigerian Legacy – 2015 – 2023 (Vols 1-5)” was reviewed by Professor Eghosa Osaghae and Professor Kabiru Mato, with editing by Dr Udu Yakubu.
Tinubu appreciated Buhari’s non-intrusive stance, emphasizing that communication is limited to personal check-ins. He stated, “Except when I call him to say, ‘Are you living, are you going to the farm?’, you don’t hear from him either to nominate or intrude in the cabinet or complain about issues. Thank you for being who you are.”
As the books unfold Buhari’s post-presidential chapter, they offer insights into a collaborative and non-intrusive approach that has contributed to the flourishing of democracy in Nigeria.
