A fierce clash between Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters happened on Monday.
Many fighters from the two terrorist groups were killed during the clash which began late afternoon on Monday, January 15, 2024,
The clash happened on the islands of Kandahar and Kaduna Ruwa on the Lake Chad shores of Kukawa, near the Nigerian border with Cameroon.
It’s gathered that matters came to a head when the ISWAP faction launched a fresh assault on the camp of Abou Hurayra, a leader of the Buduma faction of Boko Haram .
It was learnt that the ISWAP fighters, led by Ali Kwaya and Abou Hassaini from Kirta in Ngala LGA, arrived on seven canoes with fighters on board and began engaging the rival group. The battle lasted for about an hour.
It was also reported that the ISWAP faction recorded higher casualties, as sources confirmed that out of the seven canoes conveying the ISWAP fighters, only two returned to Kirta.
The latest skirmish is a continuation of the deadly clashes between the two terrorists’ groups, which have resulted in the deaths of tens of fighters from both sides.
