Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State asserted on Wednesday that the governments of South West states remain undeterred by the tragic explosion in Ibadan on Tuesday night. The explosion in Bodija, Ibadan, resulted in casualties and significant injuries, with at least 20 houses destroyed, attributed to explosives in the possession of illegal miners.

In a statement, Governor Abiodun conveyed condolences to his Oyo State counterpart, Governor Seyi Makinde, expressing deep regret over the substantial loss of lives and property due to neglect and criminality.

Despite the monumental tragedy, Governor Abiodun praised the swift response of the Oyo State government, commending their efforts in saving lives by promptly dispatching first responders to the scene.

The Ogun State Governor conveyed absolute confidence that the Oyo State government would apprehend and prosecute the perpetrators, emphasizing that they are “on top of the situation.”

In his condolence message, Governor Abiodun extended sympathy to the families affected by the devastating incident and affirmed solidarity with the people of Oyo State. He offered full support for recovery and rebuilding efforts, expressing the hope that the souls of the departed rest in peace, and the injured find strength and healing.

Highlighting the historic importance of Ibadan to every Yoruba person, Governor Abiodun assured that the governments of the South-West states would not be deterred by the tragedy. Instead, they would collectively intensify security measures across the states to ensure the safety and security of the people.
