A Dei-Dei Grade I Area Court in Abuja sentenced Nweka Martins, a security guard from Tungamaji, to eight months in prison for stealing 200 live fish from his employer’s pond.

Alternatively, he can pay a N100,000 fine. The judge, Saminu Suleiman, cautioned Martins to avoid future criminal activities.

The prosecution, Juliana Atinko, stated that the theft and mischief occurred on December 18, with the complainant reporting the matter on December 21.

Martins not only stole the fish but also damaged the complainant’s car engine and transformer cables, collecting N35,000 from a customer without consent.

The convict confessed during police investigation, violating sections 287 and 327 of the Penal Code.
