The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of an unspecified number of its officers for extorting $3000 from an unnamed victim.

Grace Iringe-Koko, the Public Relations Officer of the command, a Superintendent of Police, stated that the implicated officers have been detained.

The arrest follows a post on X (former Twitter) by a user with the handle @harrisonbbi18, alleging that some operatives from the state police command went to Aba in Abia State, picked an undisclosed victim, and extorted $3000 from him.

He posted: “Police officers attached to Rivers State Police Command left Port Harcourt to Aba, Abia State, arrested a man, took him to Rivers State, Bayelsa State and entered Ughelli, Delta State.

“After paying 3,000 USD, they moved him back to Port Harcourt and dumped him.”

However, Iringe-Koko, who did not give the number of cops involved noted that investigation has been opened into the development, adding that the findings would be made public.

She said: “The police personnel have been identified and arrested while the investigation is in progress. The outcome will be made public as soon as it is concluded.
