AFCON 2023: Senegal Coach Cisse hospitalised after win against Cameroon

He is doing fine – Senegalese Federation

Teranga Lions of Senegal head coach Aliou Cisse was taken to hospital following his side’s win over Cameroon on Friday.

The Lions of Teranga continued their impressive defence of the Africa Cup of Nations with a 3-1 win that secured their place in the knockout phase.

However, according to Daily Mail, Cisse suffered a health scare and was treated by medical staff for a ‘benign infectious pathology’ at a local hospital in Yamoussoukro where he stayed overnight.

The 47-year-old has since been released and returned to the side.

A statement by the Senegalese federation said: “The tests are reassuring and he is back with his group’.

“He’s doing well,” Senegal team spokesperson Kara Thioune added.

Cisse has been the country’s manager since 2015 and guided them to AFCON glory in the 2022 tournament.

He has also led the side in the last two World Cup finals, including last year’s tournament which saw them knocked out by England in the last-16.
