The British Council in Nigeria has announced another increase in the fee for the English Language Testing System (IELTS) examinations, raising it by 29%. According to a notice on the council’s website, starting from February 1, 2024, applicants will be required to pay N139,000 for the Computer Academic and General Training Modules.

IELTS is a globally recognised examination that shows language proficiency for non-native English speakers. The council attributed the fee adjustment to the rising costs of conducting the examination.

The notice outlined the new prices for various IELTS tests, effective from the specified date:

The council explained that the price change was necessary to cope with the increased costs of delivering their exams, ensuring the continued provision of a wide range of services and comprehensive support for candidates to achieve their goals. This marks the second price increase in the past five months, with the previous adjustment in September 2023, when the fee rose from N80,000 to N90,000 to a flat rate of N107,500.
