One shot dead as rival cult groups clash in Delta

At least three persons have been reportedly killed after violence broke out between warring cult groups in Benin City, Edo State.

The deceased were allegedly killed on Sunday night in a renewed clash between the Black Axe and the Eiye group.

The fresh cult-related clash has plunged the residents of the city into a state of apprehension and uncertainty.

Two of the latest victims simply identified as Denco and Ariba were allegedly killed at a drinking joint at Igun junction between Igbesanmwan and Oza Street, off Sokponba Road in Benin.

It was learnt that while Denco was accosted by the assailants at the drinking joint, Ariba was killed inside his room shortly after leaving the drinking joint.

It was gathered that the deceased, who was drunk, left the door of his room open while sleeping.

The third victim was said to have been killed at 2nd East Circular area in the same day.

Recall that no fewer than 30 people including a journalist with a private broadcast station and vigilante heads were killed during a clash between members of the Black Axe and their rival Supreme Eiye Confraternities at the last Yuletide season in Benin.

The Public Relations Officer of the Edo State Police Command, SP Chidi Nwanbuzor, is yet to issue a statement regarding the incident.
