- The defendant was arraigned on two counts of defilement and unlawful indecent act towards a minor.
One Nasiru Uthman has been remanded by the Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court in Lagos State for allegedly defiling a 12-year-old girl.
Justice Rahman Oshodi ordered the remand of Uthman at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre on Tuesday following his arraignment.
The defendant was arraigned on two counts of defilement and unlawful indecent act towards a minor.
The charges were preferred against him by the Lagos State Government.
The state prosecution counsel, Ms Bukola Okeowo, informed the court that the defendant committed the alleged crime sometime in January 2022. She said the incident occurred at about 6 pm, in the Lekki area of the state.
According to the prosecutor, the offences committed contravened Sections 138 and 135 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.
However, the defendant who took his plea in Hausa Language, through a translator, as he does not understand the English language, pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.
Consequently, Justice Oshodi ordered that he be remanded in correctional custody and adjourned the matter till April 25, 2024, for the commencement of trial.
